PIONEER
In the nineties, when same gender tango was problematic in social settings, Valeria arrived in NYC and founded the first all-female tango company worldwide: TangoMujer. Together, the five women of TangoMujer (Brigitte Winkler, Angelika Fischer, Rebecca Shulman, Fabienne Bongard and Valeria) co-directed and co-created shows that used tango as abstract language, and explored playfully the dynamic tensions between gender and tango roles. They toured internationally supported by two NEFA grants and performed to rave reviews for 10 years.
